Heart surgery is any surgery done on the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or the aorta and other large arteries connected to the heart.
Angiogram
An angiogram is an X-ray test to detect any enlargement, narrowing or blockages in the blood vessels. The lungs, heart, brain, neck, legs and arms are common areas of concentration during an angiogram. An angiogram can be used to detect and diagnose certain medical conditions including coronary heart disease, angina, myocardial infarction and portal hypertension – among others. If your doctor or physician suspects any of these, they may request that you have an angiogram.
Angioplasty
Angioplasty is a medical procedure to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels of the heart called the coronary arteries. Angioplasty is not considered to be a type of surgery. It’s now as common as heart bypass surgery. It’s sometimes called percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Angioplasty is also used in other parts of the body, usually to treat peripheral artery disease.
Coronary Bypass - Heart Bypass Surgery
Heart bypass surgery is the colloquial name for coronary artery bypass surgery or coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG – often pronounced ‘cabbage’). It is the most frequently performed surgery all over the world
Heart Valve Surgery
Heart valve surgery addresses the problem of heart valves not functioning right. In heart valve disease, either the valve may not open completely, or it may not shut tight. In either circumstance, blood doesn’t move through the heart’s chambers the way it should, thus putting more pressure on the heart.
Mitral Valve Repair
In case of mitral valve regurgitation, repair is generally considered a better alternative than the valve replacement. This pages content discusses the methods of heart valve surgery, with emphasis on the advantages of minimally invasive mitral valve heart surgery in India
Pace Maker Installation
Pacemaker installation involves inserting a medical device, also called an artificial pacemaker or heart pace maker, to maintain regular heartbeats for patients who experience, or have experienced, heart failure, fainting episodes, or any other such discomforts which might disturb the heart’s natural pacemaker.
Abdominal and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm
People with aortic aneurysms – thoracic or abdominal – may need to be operated on an urgent basis. It is for this reason that abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery abroad in countries with no wait times like India is sometimes preferred. In many cases it it the high cost that leads people to go abroad for this procedure
ICD - Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or automated implantable cardioverter defibrillator (AICD) is a device implantable inside the body, able to perform cardioversion, defibrillation, and (in modern versions) pacing of the heart. The device is therefore capable of correcting most life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. The ICD is the first-line treatment and prophylactic therapy for patients at risk for sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
