Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients with skeletal deformities - disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and skin. These elements make up the musculoskeletal system.

Your body's musculoskeletal system is a complex system of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves and allows you to move, work and be active. Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopedics now cares for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet, to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery, to older people with arthritis.
Spinal Foraminotomy
A foraminotomy is a procedure used to decompress the compressed nerve roots. Foraminotomy is done in cervical spine, thoracic spine, and more commonly in lumbar spine. The procedure refers to the spine’s foramen; the nerve passageways through which the nerve roots exit the spinal column. Depending on many factors such as the location of the compressed nerve or severity of the patient's symptoms, a foraminotomy may be combined with other procedures such as a laminotomy or laminectomy.
Spinal Instrumentation
Spinal Instrumentation treats shakiness and malformation of the spine. Instability of the spine happens when the spine doesn’t maintain its usual shape during movement. Such instability leads to nerve damage, spinal deformities and pain. Spinal deformities may be caused by birth defects, fractures, Marfan’s syndrome, neuromuscular diseases, severe injuries and tumors, neurofibromatosis,Scoliosis, deformity of the curvature of the spine, is typically treated with spinal fusion and spinal instrumentation.
Spine Fusion
Spinal fusion eliminates motion between vertebrae. It also prevents the stretching of nerves and surrounding ligaments and muscles. It is an option when motion is the source of pain, such as movement that occurs in a part of the spine that is arthritic or unstable due to injury, disease, or the normal aging process. The theory is if the painful vertebrae do not move, they should not hurt. Fusion will take away some spinal flexibility, but most spinal fusions involve only small segments of the spine and do not limit motion very much.
Spinal Discectomy
Lumbar discectomy is a surgery to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the lower spine. The incision is made posterior, through the back muscles, to remove the disc pressing on the nerve. Discectomy may be recommended if physical therapy or medication fail to relieve leg or back pain or if you have signs of nerve damage, such as weakness or loss of feeling in your legs. The surgery can be performed in an open or minimally invasive technique.
Lumbar Laminectomy
Back pain can grow progressively worse and more disabling, depending on the cause. At some point, your doctor may suggest surgery as one of the alternatives. The lumbar laminectomy may be one option. Despite medical breakthroughs, back pain has been a common problem through the centuries, often with no simple solutions.
Cervical Corpectomy
the joints around between each vertebra. The vast majority of patients who have neck pain will not require any type of operation. However, in some cases degenerative changes in the cervical spine can lead to a very serious condition where there is too much pressure on the spinal cord. When this condition occurs, the entire spinal cord is in danger. One surgical option is to remove the pressure on the spinal cord by removing the degenerative vertebrae and replacing them with a bone graft. This procedure is called a corpectomy and strut graft.
Endoscopic Spine Surgery
Spine surgery is traditionally done as "open surgery." This means that the area being operated on is opened with a long incision to allow the surgeon to view and access the anatomy. In recent years, however, technological advances have allowed more back and neck conditions to be treated with a minimally invasive surgical technique.
